So these waffles are delicious and fluffy a traditional Belgian Waffles.

Unlike our easy waffles (link above) you need to take your time ensuring that the eggs are separated well.

A tiny bit of yolk in the egg whites will make it near impossible to get a good stiff peak on them.

Using a waffle iron

We love our waffle iron and have used it most weekends since we got it to make our easy Sunday morning waffles. They are the kids favourite and any time they had a sleepover their friends begged for them as well.

With so much use the non-stick surface isn’t as good as it used to be and I had been using some cooking spray but discovered that this was leaving a residue on the waffle iron so instead we’ve been doing something different!

How to make your waffle iron non-stick again

The cooking spray was leaving our waffle iron slightly sticky so I hunted around for some advice and tips on what to do.

waffles on a waffle iron coated with sunflower oil to ensure they don't stick
  • First – a good wash down and rinse with hot soapy water to remove the tackiness.
  • Then using a silicone pastry brush lightly coat with some sunflower oil.

This has solved the problem and every so often I recoat with the sunflower oil (do not use olive oil as it can taste funny on breakfast waffles!!!) to keep the non-stick going.

It’s the egg whites that really add in the air and keep the waffles light.
