Ingredients for Family Favorite Pecan Pie

Pie Crust Recipe

  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 2-3 tablespoons cold water

Pecan Pie Filling Recipe

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup dark corn syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans

How to Make Pecan Pie

Homemade Pie Crust Instructions

1. Combine the flour and salt in a large bowl.

2. Add the butter and use a pastry blender or fork to blend the ingredients together until the mixture resembles coarse sand.

4. Add the vinegar and two tablespoons of water. Stir together until a thick dough begins to form. If the dough is too dry, add more water one teaspoon at a time.

5. Form the dough into a thin disk and wrap in plastic wrap. Store in the refrigerator to chill for at least four hours.

6. When ready to bake the pie, preheat the oven to 375 and place a cookie sheet in the oven.

7. Roll out the dough until it’s around 1/8th inch thick. Place the pie crust in a 9-inch pie pan and trim the edges, if needed.

6. You could decorate the pie with some pecan halves around the centre and serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
