We love our desserts here on Hey Mom! What’s Cooking? and like to make them a little more festive this time of year. This Christmas Bread and Butter Pudding recipe is based on a classic or traditional Bread and Butter Pudding but because of the richness of the eggnog and sugars, we aren’t buttering the bread instead just adding it at the end for a little extra flavour! So here we go our Christmas Bread and Butter Pudding recipe for you and to enjoy this holiday season.

Bread and Butter Pudding

This is one of our favourite desserts for family meals. It’s easy to throw together and you can make it a little special or different by adding a few extra ingredients.

Eggnog and Cranberry Bread and Butter Pudding

Bread and butter pudding on a plate made with eggnog custard and ripe fresh cranberries

Delicious Christmas version of the traditional Bread and Butter Pudding which will wow your holiday guests this year. Served with a homemade Vanilla and Bourbon Sauce

Cook Time 35 minutes
Total Time 55 minutes


Bread Pudding Ingredients

  • 1- 12 inch loaf French bread, cubed (day old bread)
  • 2 C eggnog
  • 4 large eggs
  • 3 TBSP brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 TBSP unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 cup cranberries

Vanilla Sauce

  • 1/4 Cup sugar
  • 1/4 Cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup half and half
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tbsp. Bourbon


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Prep an 8 x 8-inch baking dish by spraying it with baking spray.
  3. Put your cubed stale bread in a large bowl.
  4. Set aside.
  5. In a medium bowl add the first five ingredients.
  6. Mix together until the sugar has dissolved. (Eggnog, eggs, brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla.)
  7. Pour the eggnog mixture (in the medium-sized bowl) over the bread cubes.
  8. Add your fresh cranberries.
  9. Toss lightly so all bread cubes are coated.
  10. Pour the bread pudding into the prepared baking dish.
  11. Drizzle the melted butter over the bread pudding.
  12. Sprinkle with the brown sugar mixture over the top of the bread pudding.
  13. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. (Or until set and the top begins to turn golden brown).
  14. Remove it from the oven.
  15. Set aside.
  16. Combine first 4 ingredients in pan over med heat and stir until it thickens.
  17. Allow it to come to a full boil about 5-8 min.
  18. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and Bourbon.
  19. Drizzle over bread bread and butter pudding with canberries sliced and placed on a white plate with green christmas tree behind
