Soup Recipes for Rainy Days
Delicious and hearty soup recipes for the cold and wet days or winter.
Perfect for leftover turkey this delicious tortellini soup is tasty and filling great for rainy winter days.
Yummy and ever so easy our homegrown roasted tomato soup is great for winter days. We make in the summer and freeze and then cook up for lunch with some homemade garlic and cheese bread.
Another homegrown favourite. This roasted red pepper soup has a little kick that makes it ideal for warming the soul on cold and rainy winter days.
Our first is a Slow Cooker Mexican Chicken Soup by Salt And Lavender, it looks amazing and taste even better. All those colours and because it can be prepared in the slow cooker or crock pot you can set it to go and know that at the end of a day (after the wet school run in our case) there is a bowl of heaven waiting for us.
I think there is nothing better than a Cream of Chicken soup on a cold wet day and this Creamy Chicken Noodle Soup by Sally’s Baking Addiction tastes amazing as she says in the recipe it's soul-food and the perfect comfort, cosy fish for winter.
Perfect for wet cold and windy days this Creamy Chipotle Chicken Tomato Soup by The Creative Bite is filling and delicious. I will admit we skipped the cilantro (coriander in the UK!) as I am one of those people that think it tastes like soap - apparently it's genetic!
Save on the washing up and make this delicious One Pot Vegan Lentil Soup from Minimalist Baker. It's amazingly filling and relatively quick to make (under 30 minutes). The kids weren't as sure on this as we were but they agreed that it was good enough to have once in a while.
This Homemade Bean And Bacon Soup from Taste And Tell Blog is my son's favourite - he does love his beans. Making them in the UK I used a tin of Heinz Baked Beans and it tasted great (not sure if it's the true flavour but worked well for us!)
Apart from Baked Beans and Kidney Beans in chilli, I didn't really try many different types of them until I travelled. Then I discovered the world of beans. This Easy Black Bean Soup by Two Healthy Kitchens although we've had this is a bowl. I will admit that making the Taco Bowls like suggested in the recipe is by far the best idea!
Tomato soup is my favourite - the quick recipe I shared above is one that I make all the time, but this year as we grew our own we've experimented with lots of different recipes and frozen many!!! One of the best we tried was this Slow Cooker Tomato Basil Parmesan Soup by The Girl Who Ate Everything.
Adding pasta to soups means that sometimes we're good and skip the bread (although the kids complain as I think that's probably their favourite part). This Crockpot Tortellini Soup by Well Plated is more like a full meal than a quick soup idea and perfect for wet days spent outside exploring or working in the garden during the winter months.
Not my favourite but my husband loves it this Slow Cooker Vegetable Beef Soup by The Lemon Bowl is full bodied and like a hug in a bowl.
Another favourite of my husbands a Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff Soup by Five Heart Home. He loves Beef Stroganoff and this soup version is great. The kids, however, pick out all of the mushrooms and leave them in a little pile by the side!
Neither of my kids like potatoes so when they aren't around I love this Loaded Baked Potato Soup by Averie Cooks. Jacket Potatoes as we call them here in the UK were one of our favourite meals for winter nights before we had kids.
Like potatoes the kids aren't keen on Mushrooms - see what they do with the mushrooms in the Stroganoff Soup above. So when they are in bed or out we will make a batch of Wild Rice Mushroom Soup by Saving Dessert and enjoy it without them.
Not one for me but like the beef above another of my husband's favourites a Fish Chowder by Simply Recipes. I wish I could eat it but unfortunately, Sea Food is off the menu for me because of allergies.
Quick and EASY this Hamburger Soup Recipe by Yellow Bliss Road is full of flavour and really fills you up. When asked by my son to rate the soups this came out top for him although he also asks for Burgers every time when it's his family dinner choice night!
I use our Le Creuset Casserole dish to make this Dutch Oven Pork Tenderloin And Sweet Potato Stew by Zesty Olive. It is more of a Stew than soup and makes the perfect family supper for rainy days.
When we visited the US last we tried Zuppa Toscana in Olive Gardens after a rainy day in Disney World and loved it. This Loaded Zuppa Toscana by Carlsbad Cravings is pretty close but "maybe" better than the original we tried.
Made in the slow cooker or one pot this Lasagna Soup by Lexi’s Clean Kitchen is delicious. Lasagna is one of my favourite pasta dishes and I had to try this recipe when I discovered it browsing Pinterest.
This Winter Vegetable Minestrone Soup by Lauren Caris Cooks really fills you up. I made this in the summer with our glut of vegetables and froze it I've been pulling it out for lunch when I've had a really wet school run in the morning.
Creamy Broccoli Soup with Crispy Shallots - Vegan & Vegetarian
A Creamy Broccoli Soup With Crispy Shallots by Running To The Kitchen is a lot tastier than it sounds - this is dairy free (yes even though it's creamy) and tastes amazing. I would recommend this to anyone that loves creamy soups.
I've tried it whilst skiing in France, it's perfect when you come in from the slopes at lunch or even to have on the slopes and nothing beats it.
This French Onion Soup recipe by Culinary Ginger is pretty close to those that I remember. It's smothered in Cheese and really a decadent treat of a soup for winter. I love the croutons in it and if I am going to make it then I make sure I use some day old homemade bread.
