Cheese and Bacon Bread in Bread Maker

Cheddar and Bacon Loaf in the Bread Machine

There are plenty of recipes to make cheddar and bacon loaf in the bread machine, but most involve yeast. Over the last year with yeast at times being difficult to find I played around with our no yeast garlic bread recipe and this cheese and bacon loaf was the result.

We love the artisan-style topping of crispy bacon and cheddar that melts into a crust in the final stages of cooking. It really doesn’t look like you’ve made it in your bread machine at all!

So what’s the secret to no yeast bread in the bread maker?

It’s using baking soda in the mix to help the bread rise.

We cook on the quick bread setting (also called rapid settings) on our machine. If you don’t have these settings then you could use the pizza dough setting to knead the bread then take it out and allow a final rise for around 20 minutes before cooking as you would Soda Bread or other no yeats bread sprinkling the cheese and bacon on the top around 10 minutes before it finishes.

Top Tip for Making this Cheese and Bacon Loaf

We love using bacon in recipes but find that cooking the bacon when we need it and chilling adds a lot of time to the preparation for recipes.

To save that time I cook a batch of bacon, let it cool down and crush it into small pieces that can then be added to recipes when we need them. It’s how I make our simple Hashbrown and Bacon Muffins for school mornings in a hurry.

Recipe for Bacon and Cheddar Loaf in the Bread Machine

So what’s the recipe? Here just carry on ready for our favourite bacon and cheese loaf that we make in the bread maker with no yeast!

Yield: 1 loaf

Cheese and Bacon Bread in Bread Maker

A simple recipe for no years cheddar and bacon loaf in the bread machine.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 2 hours
Total Time 2 hours 5 minutes


  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 strips bacon, cooked and finely chopped


  1. Add the milk, egg, and olive oil to the bread machine pan.
  2. Top with flour, then add the baking soda, sugar, garlic powder, and parsley flakes.
  3. Set the bread machine to the quick bread setting.
  4. Reserve two tablespoons of shredded cheese and one tablespoon of chopped bacon for topping, then add the remaining cheese and bacon to the pan when the bread machine beeps for add-ins.
  5. Allow the bread machine to bake for the allotted time. When 10 minutes remain in the baking cycle, sprinkle the reserved cheese and bacon over the top of the bread.
  6. When the cook time is up, allow the bread to cool in the pan until safe to touch, then remove from pan to finish cooling. Serve warm or at room temperature.
